Measuring Type: What font uses the most ink?

London based Creative Tom Wrigglesworth & Matt Robinson wondered which fonts were more economical when it comes to ink usage.

They created an art installation which they call "Measuring Type" where each typeface was drawn out with ballpoint pens. The used pens with remaining ink levels are mounted next to the lettering to display the ink efficiency of each typeface.

The winning type faces in order of ink efficiency were:

  1. Garamond
  2. Courier
  3. Brush Script
  4. Times New Roman
  5. Helvetica
  6. Comic Sans
  7. Cooper Black
  8. Impact
